MacBook Pro 2017 15" overheating, not sure why?

I bought a MacBook pro online brand new sealed(most recent model, maxed out except 512 GB) and it works really great! I love macOS, the keyboard, and the Trackpad gestures(this is my first Mac). But sometimes, when I'm just doing anything, the fans can start to get really loud and the bottom gets very hot. It's not so hot that I can't use it, but it's enough to warrant my concern. Is it because I have tons of apps running in the background? Since I'm new to macOS I'm not sure how to make sure that the applications are closed in the background, so maybe that may be it. Could there be any causes? Please lmk thanks.

I think you’ll need to dig in a bit as there are a few different causes and without some better diagnostics its hard to tell.

How about running Activity Monitor to see whats running thats consuming your systems resources. You may want to monitor your systems thermal sensors using an app like this one: TG Pro.

Looks like I found the problem. It's this little thing called Chrome Helper which is using 700% of my CPU, lol.

By the sound of it... are you using it in a bed? I assume so that you just blocking air vents. Try using some tray under neath it to free up air vents
