Hi,

As you know water and electronics and electricity are not a good mix.

The impurities in the water causes corrosion and provides circuit paths for the electricity which were not in the phone's operating design and could damage the components.

First do not turn on your phone and with the phone turned off you need to remove the battery as soon as possible to prevent any further damage.

Then you need to dis-assemble the rest of the phone and clean all the affected parts using Isopropyl Alcohol 90%+ (available from most pharmacies) to remove all traces of corrosion and water. Do not use "rubbing alcohol" as in some cases this is <70% IPA, can contain scents and is not as effective. If you do check the label to verify the amount

Here is a link that describes the process.

Electronics Water Damage

As always with electronics, especially surface mounted PCBs be gentle when handling and especially when brushing away the corrosion. You do not want to remove any components from the boards.

Hopefully after you have done all this the phone might possibly work correctly again.

Here is a link to a video which may be of some help. (You may be able to find a better one ;-)

If this process seems too daunting, take your phone to a reputable, professional mobile phone repair service, experienced in water damage repair and ask for a quote for a repair.

If you decide to do this, do it sooner than later.

I have a similar problem as hers as well. I dropped my phone in milk (don’t ask how i even got to do that) but i immediately took out the battery and put it in some rice. It wasn’t the entire phone just the bottom part. Its a J7 prime by the way. After 3 hours or so i took it out and everything was working perfectly fine. I did a regular maintenance check and everything was quite fine with the phone. Until all of a sudden the navigation buttons stopped working. I added it back in rice and after taking it out, the buttons were working. After a 2 min or 3 they stopped again. I tried putting it and taking it out of rice continuously( i would leave it for 1 hour then take it out ) . The same problem arises. What could i do to fix this problem? Please help!

LEAVE IN RICE WITH BATTERY OUT FOR AT LEAST 24 HRS WITH THE RICE AND PHONE SEALED IN A ZIPLOCK BAG. Then try tour phone again. Also take to repair shop and have them go thru the phone. Please make a note , I am not yelling at you, caps lock sticks inside the board sometimes

Hi,

Rice does nothing to fix the problems caused by corrosion, which is caused by the impurities in all liquids (except distilled water). These impurities can also create circuits for electric current to flow which were not in the circuit design of the phone. Leaving the battery connected while you wait for the water to be absorbed just prolongs the chances of more component damage occurring.

There is always power connected to the motherboard. The power button is not a power isolating button. It merely signals the OS what the user wants to happens.
