Why won't my washing machine spin on its own?

My washing machine will agitate, drain, and sometimes spin. But most of the time, I have to open the lid and manually turn the tub to start the spinning process. Sometimes I have to do this several times before it will catch and start spinning on its own. My husband replaced the motor coupler, but that didn't solve the problem. What else could it be?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Lauren Espinosa what is your washers exact model number? Once it starts spinning does it spin sufficiently enough or is your laundry still pretty wet?

The model number is 11016852503. Once it does start spinning, it spins well, unless it’s a heavy load of towels. I can’t do a full load of towels at all anymore.

May be your transmission. Fortunately your washer is very standard and very repairable, and there are plenty of YouTube videos on every sort of problem that can exist with these washers.

In your city there may be a store that sells refurbished washing machines. You could likely get exactly the same washer from them for a lot less money than a new washer would cost. If the transmission is the problem, then you will probably come out just as cheap buying a refurbished machine as buying a transmission and fixing this one.
