My satellite p100 needs a replacement motherboard.

I need to know what other motherboards could be used instead of A000005040. I am open to buying this motherboard or a compatible replacement either new or used.

Please help.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Because you are dealing with a laptop, you need to get the one specified by the manufacturer. There isn't much if any room for deviation when you are dealing with a laptop; the motherboard is one of the items that you can't deviate on. The problem is, everything in the laptop has been reduced in size so as to allow for portability; and you have to make sure that everything will match and will work together.

Are you sure you need a new motherboard? Unless you know how to replace it yourself, you would be better off buying another laptop rather than another motherboard. Even if you replace it yourself, it may not be worth replacing.

Thank you so much for taking your time to answer my question. I am reassured therefore that I can't hope to find an alternative MB. To answer your question: yes, I am sure I need a MB because I was the one that shorted it when I changed the monitor (it had a vertical line from top to bottom).

Before you buy a motherboard or a new laptop, check the CMOS battery (it is about the size and color of a nickle). It is doubtful that the CMOS battery is the cause of your troubles, but you might get lucky and fix the problem simply by replacing the CMOS battery.

I had what appeared to be a dead motherboard. I tested the CMOS battery and found it to be dead. I then replaced it and the motherboard came back to life. That was a couple of years ago; I am still using that computer today.

The fact that you shorted your motherboard means that the motherboard is likely damaged, and therefore changing the CMOS battery probably won't fix the problem. But you could try removing all power from the laptop (including your main battery and your CMOS battery, and including all cables that might possibly have any power in the line), then wait a few minutes for all power to totally dissipate from the computer. If your CMOS battery is weak or dead, replace it. Then reinstall the CMOS battery, then the main battery, then reconnect everything. Totally draining the computer of all power, then powering it back up again, will reset it; and you might get lucky and find it working again after that reset.
