Hello brebel18,

Sadly, I have never replaced or fixed a MacBook Pro myself, so I do not know how to fix this personally, but I looked up a tutorial on how to replace the trackpad on your MacBook Pro model and I believe it should tell you what to do, as what you are trying to do is reassemble the touchpad after you accidentally took of the metal shield.

Hope this helps!

The guide is useful but neither of the guides show you how to put the trackpad back on. I would imagine the weight of the battery would hold the trackpad down thanks though.

At the end of the guide it says follow the steps in reverse, so I would imagine you just put the cover back on with double sided tape, or put it back on with the leftover adhesive left on it and have the battery hold it down, and it should function fine. In the guide, they just peel it like a sticker, and explain how it is mainly a cover. So, I believe you can just stick it back on. Best of luck!

Can you recommend some double sided sticky tape for the job? Thanks.

Sure! Here is a link to some 5mm double sided tape. And yes, you heard me right, 5mm. It’s a big roll, just the tape is 5mm in diameter. This is the kind I use when fixing devices myself so I’d recommend it personally: https://www.fixez.com/5mm-premium-red-do...
