What causes my gas valve coils to keep failing?

So I have replaced the coils multiple times in the past 12 months. I just bought a new set today, installed them. Dryer started up fine. Went to check on it about 15 minutes later and there was no heat. Shut it off and let it cool down for a few minutes. When I started it back up the ignitor glowed and the valve opened. The flame kind of sputtered for a few seconds then went out. Every time the flame goes out the valves stay open. The only reason I know this is because when I open the door I can smell gas.
