Installing LED keyboard from ASUS VivoBook S510U to a F510U

I have an Asus VivoBook S510U with an LED keyboard. My wife has the slightly lower model F510U *without* the LED keyboard. When comparing side-by-side, they both have the same form factor and the two keyboards are the same except the S510U has LED controls on F3 and F4 where the F510U does not.

Can anyone confirm if an LED keyboard from a S510U will work on a F510U?

I'll open both up tonight to compare Motherboard connections. My hope is that as long as the keyboard connectors are the same and connect to same location on motherboard that all I would need otherwise is maybe drivers to control it once installed on the F510U. I'll report what I find.

EDIT 23May18: So I opened up the S510U in an effort to at least get a part number from the keyboard. What I found was that on these laptops, the keyboard is mounted under the palm rest. Unlike most other laptops, there is no bezel to remove which allows the keyboard to be easily removed. After removing the bottom panel, I realized the way these laptops are put together, the keyboard went in first then the rest of the internals like motherboard, battery, hard drive, fans, etc... installed over the back of the keyboard.

I contacted ASUS tech support via online chat about swapping a led-keyboard into the F510U and they said they could not help me since there was nothing actually wrong with the laptop. Well that was no help.

At that point I felt it was just not worth the effort. I really dint feel like gutting 2 new laptops to test my theory. :)

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Yes I've been wondering the same thing. I didn't think much about the backlit LED when I bought the F510U, which everything else is a great laptop!! Just need some light when you work in a dark-lit cafes......

Spending $20 bucks or under shipped I'll definitely try it too. Anything higher....I'd have to think about it since I would just have bought a different laptop. GL!
