Headphones socket repair or replacement?

When I plug my headphones, the quality and level or the sound is bad, and I must gently shake the plug to find an intermediate plugging position where it works fine, but it is not steady.

The headphones socket is not faulty : I tried another one and itis the same problem .

I suppose there is a bad contact in the headphones socket on the front of my G4 MDD. Is it easy to fix ? Do I need a new socket ? How do I get it ?

Do you mean you tried a different headphone set?

Yes, and the introduction of the 3.5mm jack is very smooth, nearly without resistance : I suspect that the metallic blades inside are bended a little from their original position

Open the side door and look at the cable that inserts into the component box that houses the audio port. Try the port on the back of the unit (not the very bottom one - that is for Apple Design speakers). This will tell us if it's the port or the speaker. The speaker part number is 922-5275 but I can't find a part number for that box on the front ( I can pull one if you can't find it anywhere else). Which MDD do you have? Go to the bottom of this list to find the correct one: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/po...

The port is OK.

The model of my Mac, that I bought in october 2003, is Apple Power Macintosh G4 1.25 (MDD 2003) - M9145F/A.
