@carriespears2 it appears as if your muffler is not letting the exhaust escape which creates back pressure on your engine. Double check that you have the right muffler and that you have nothing obstructing the outlet at the muffler as well as the outlet on the cylinder head where the muffler bolts on to.

Update (05/13/2018)

make sure that your exhaust port is absolutely clear/clean. Double check it for carbon residue etc. If it is already narrowed the new muffler may add more of a restriction to good exhaust flow.

Update (05/13/2018)

when you unbolt the muffler, take a look at the engine side you should see something similar as in the picture I've attached. that is the exhaust port. If you can, post some pictures of what the one on your engine looks like. Do you have a part number for the muffler that you bought? It might help us to identify your engine etc.

Update (05/14/2018)

@carriespears2 darn! I never realized how much those mufflers cost. Anyhow, yes the muffler is right. Okay so on your Robin 244CC the 130 for the compression is very good as well (anything over 100) is considered acceptable. I do not have any information about a Robin EG25-2 but have plenty on EC25-2. See if the attached manual on page 16 looks like yours.engines.PDF If so, use this to do some basic maintenance like adjusting timing and points as well as your carb. I recognize all this back and forth must be a real PITA for you but some things are just easier to fix online than others.

this is the second muffler we bought because we thought the first one was bad when the cart wouldnt go ..it runs really good when the muffler is off just loud and as soon as we bolt the new one on it wont go .

by

That is really odd since it is obvious coming from the muffler creating a blockage. Not to insult you but you are sure that you have the right muffler for the engine? Do you know by any chance what engine your cart has? If it is a 2-stroke engine then you could have port issues.

by

no insult taken at all.we are new to this and thought we were getting a golf cart to just poke around the farm but it has been a headache sense day one..the cart itself says 1985 on it ..i have no idea if that is the original engine..we took the exhaust pipe off and it is clean .the guy we bought it from said the engine was rebuilt.and thats taking his word for it. we checked the cylinder pressure and it was 130..is that what it should be? what is a port? your help is very appreciated..thanks

the cart ran ok with the old muffler on it .just loud and wouldnt go up a hill at all. someone told us if we changed the muffler it would go faster and pull the hills. with the muffler completely off it will go up hills really good.

It may be the type of muffler... 2 stroke engines mufflers require mufflers that are designed for 2-stroke engines... So, if you bought two of the same type and they are for 4 stroke engines, that is probably the cause. Read comments on the wrong type of muffler issue.

One other possibility may be carbon buildup on the exhaust valve and exhaust port. Two stroke engines use gasoline with a certain percentage or engine oil.. and that mixture can create carbon build-up in the exhaust ways (valve, port, pipe)... so, if the proper muffler doesn't help, you'll have to remove the cylinder head to remove carbon deposits.

Just a thought . The gasket you got with the muffler . Did you knock out the center of it . Sometimes the gasket comes with the center section not cut out and its up to you to knock the center out .If it did and you didn't it wont run . Hey stranger things have happened . Hope this helps
