bravia has no picture or sound and flashing 5 times

Sony Brava KDL-52WL135 had problem with ghost images until warmed up. Found a fix on the web to install rubber bumpers under the frame to put pressure on the ribbon cables.

After reassembling and powering up this seemed to fix the problem, but while I was tapping on the bezel in the corner where I put the spacers to make sure the fix was good the screen went black. Now when I power on the Power lamp comes on for a few seconds then the Standby lamp flashes 5 times continuously. Never any picture or sound. I tried checking with a flashlight to see it the backlight was out, but nothing there.

Any ideas?

@rblake65 start off with a power reset first. Switch off the TV. Remove the power cord from the outlet. Press and hold the TV power button for 30 seconds then release. Now plug the power cord back into the outlet. Turn on the TV. See if that resolves anything.

the 5 blink error code can have quite a few different causes. Ranging from the T-con board to the panel and few things in between. Besides the great answer from @tdunc15 you also want to dig a little deeper. If you have the original TV remote than try to see if this will work on your set:

1. In standby mode, press the following buttons on the Sony remote:

DISPLAY....5....VOL(-)....TV POWER

2. On the left side are the blink codes. On the right hand side is the error count.

3. Under 005, you'll see three listings... TCON, HFR, and P-ID (panel).

4. Let us know what errors your set shows.

If this does not work on your set, then you will have to remove the back of your TV and check the boards. Try to rule out/in the T-con board as faulty which is the most common cause for the 5 blinks. Double check your work with those rubber bumpers. I wonder if you actually shortened something out etc. . Disconnect the LVDS cable to the T-CON board, the cable between the Main board and the T-CON board, and see if the error code will change. Let us know what the result is. You will need a multimeter to check for further errors. You also want to consider posting images with your question when you get to the boards so we can see with you see. The above is a link to the service manual for you TV. On page 12, it says 3 links is "POW_ERR1". You can also hit the "Display", then the Channel "5", then the Volume "-", and then the Power buttons within a second each other to display the diagnostic screen to see how many times this POW_ERR1 occurred and if there are other errors.

Most likely, you've knocked a connector loose or something when you had the TV open installing the rubber bumpers. Take a look and see if anything seems out of place. The service manual link above also provides all the schematics you need to troubleshoot the TV.
