iPhone not charging, tigris or tristar?...

i have a 6s here that had a small amount of liquid damage, it originally fried U3200 causing the camera and flash to not work, I have managed to bypass using a jumper wire from c3211 to fl3202, and the camera now works again.

the other issue I noticed is it wont charge a battery, it will be prompted to boot when charger is plugged in, and even pop up saying "cable not suported" even though they're official apple cables, but it wont have the charge icon in the corner, and battery % falls, tristar and tigris both look immaculate with no corrosion around them, I'm thinking of replacing tristar next, but wanted a second opinion on this one before i start replacing IC's

Many thanks!

Harry

Have you tried another charging port? I would try that before going for Tristar or Tigris.

After testing another charging port and still not working go for replacing Tristar first as that controls the USB communication between the board to the charging cable.

I would wait for other answers first as there are people here more experienced than me and know what to measure for first before replacing Tristar / Tigris.

Forgot mention all the basic stuff like charge port/battery etc have been tested, No major shorts through the power supply either, I want to say it’s tristar, but not sure if it’s an issue getting power into the board, or actually charging the battery, will have to take poke around with the multimeter tomorrow and see what’s going where

It's probably not Tristar as it is communicating with the device. Check the condition of C2300/L2300 and Q2300 in the Tigris area. I would also check the TIGRIS_ACTIVE_DIODE line to insure it is going LOW (when a charger is connected) to properly bias the MOSFET and allow charging.

Just curious, what does Tigris do and what makes it different from Tristar?

by

Tristar communicates with connected peripherals whereas Tigris is actually doing the "charging". It creates VCC_MAIN from the USB voltage when connected (you can see that it has an internal Buck Converter) and seems to have some internal circuitry to switch the battery input voltage to VCC_MAIN when nothing is connected. It's a bit of a black box so nobody knows for certain, I'm just going based on what the schematic "tells" me. A more experienced charging/power delivery engineer would certainly have a more authoritative answer :>).

Very good. Thank you
