iPod got hot now won't turn on

I had my i pod plugged into a Harman kardon car adapter and it got really hot now it wont turn on. i am pretty handy fixing electronics but I'm not sure what needs to be replaced. will the heat affect the hard drive, screen or circuits? do you think i could get away with just replacing the battery?

thanks for any info

It definitely sounds like the battery fried. I just hope that's all! I'd try replacing the battery. Failing that, I'd consider cutting my losses.

I'd also get that HK adapter checked out. If a fault in the adapter caused a sustained voltage spike (I believe USB is only supposed to be 5v), that could have overloaded the battery and/or the logic board. With luck, the battery is the only problem.

+ agreed. Make sure that you remove the battery and replace it. Best case scenario is a new battery, worst case is bad logic board. But start with the easy part, the battery. Good Luck

Did it get hot while in use? Or did you leave it in the car and it got hot? Sounds like something got shorted out to me.
