How do I get it to start charging?

My phone got a little wet on the bottom where the charging port and speakers are located. When it got wet the battery was low. The phone was fine only thing was the sound was off. It died but won't charge. It shows the red battery signal with the usb sign. How do I fix it?

I saw a video that said to try replacing battery or charging port. Will that work?

Water is the wildcard here. You say that only the lower portion of the phone was impacted. That may be so but don't underestimate how good water is at getting around. You could just try and replace the Lightning Port and battery but honestly, you should thoroughly decontaminate the logic board as well otherwise you may have latent issues that will come back to haunt you.

  • Open your phone and remove the logic board (follow this guide)
  • Inspect the logic board, especially around the connectors and look for corrosion.
  • Inspect both sides of the board. Unfortunately, most of the board is covered in shields. That's usually where the damage is occurring.
  • Put your board in a container with >90% isopropyl alcohol and let it sit for a while.
  • Use a soft brush, like a toothbrush and lightly brush away any corrosion you see.
  • Rinse in alcohol and repeat.
  • Let it air dry for a day.
  • Re-assemble and hope for the best.
