Transferring home button to new digitizer

I just got a new digitizer for a smashed iPad Air, and I noticed that the home button is kind of sunken, and seems to be missing the Hall effect circuitry. Is there a simple fix for this, or do I have to transfer my original home button over? How do I do that? I haven't been able to find any good documentation on how to remove the button and bracket and glue it on. Thanks!

You've been probably supplied an incomplete replacement missing something, maybe the metal pin between button and switch. You can remove and transfer the original with a hot air station, it's kept in place just by biadhesive.

What kind of adhesive should I use to glue it back down?

If done quickly at right temperature with surfaces clean from dust you might be able to just reuse and reglue in place the original without any addition. Otherwise a good quality biadhesive (Tesa just to name one) will be the right choice. Avoid stiff adhesives like cyanoacrylates..they tend to break after a while.
