Can I use 2011 iMac LCD assembly in 2012 iMac?

Hi

The ribbon connectors that connect the T-CON board to the LCD have been ripped off. There's no damage or tears to them but as they are glued and not plugged in I cannot get them back on.

I'm not sure if it is possible to re-attach or reglue the ribbons back on?

I also thought could I plug the 2011 screen into the 2012 iMac? Both share the same output resolution at 2K.

Has any one attempted this?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

What I mean is

Could I plug the lcd in and would it display anything or just a black screen?

I'm not looking to put it in place just see if it works.

This is not the magnetic vs glue answer I'm after but whether or not I could actually plug the 2011 LCD into the 2012 iMac.

Sorry no. The 2011 systems are the last magnetic of the attached display assembly whereas the 2012 model is the first glued down display assembly. They are not interchangeable!

Could I plug the 2011 LCD into the iMac just to see if it works though or if it would just show a black display?

Whats the point?

If you want to just see if the system is working just plug in an external monitor via the Thunderbolt port (DisplayPort to display cable).
