PS4 Dead Except for Eject Button

Hello,

I am having a tough time figuring out why my PS4 won't boot. The power button is unresponsive, there are no lights and the drive won't except discs. The only thing that seems to have power is the Eject button which beeps (1 when the disc was in and 3 when I emptied it).

There are no signs of damage on the motherboard or the disc drive. The mains cable checks out and I have tried installing a known working disc drive and PSU from another PS4 with the same results.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Sounds to me like the problem is with the power button. Have you tried cleaning the case around the power button? We're there any issues before this happened?

Actually it's a used unit which I have very little info about what happened to it. I have cleaned the whole unit and like I said there is no signs of any physical damage on the motherboard. My voltage tester screwdriver shows there is power on the button itself, in fact it shows power everywhere on the board. Is that normal? I've repaired quite a few PS4s and this is the first time I've come across this fault.

Try scratching the layer the gold conductive plate beneath the power switch. A known problem with the early units is the capacitive buttons. That gold plate gets some type of problem with the coating and will not allow it to power on, and sometimes it seems possessed and switches itself on and off. All you need do is lightly scratch the surface until it is uniformly shiny. I've done it to my old unit and it worked a treat. Then my daughter whom I gave it to, had similar issues as yours. Did it again a viola works again.

I'd like to know though before I try that solution. Did your PS4 still power on when you tried to enter a disc before you scratched the touch button, or was the drive completely dead?

Did it ever get fixed?

Hi. Is your problem still actual? May be I know the real solution. But you will have to do some soldering job and have check some components inside with multimeter.
