Kenmore is a popular appliance brand commonly sold by Sears, but Sears does not manufacture any of the appliances themselves. Instead, they source that out and have other manufacturers make their appliances for them. Kenmore refrigerators are made by a variety of different manufacturers including LG, Electrolux, GE, and Whirlpool.

Hi @ricknheather

When you say that the fan is working, do you mean the condenser fan at the back?

If so then you should check if the evaporator fan is working or if it is frozen over.

It is located on the inside of the freezer cabinet behind a panel at the back.

Here is a linkto the parts for your fridge.

Type "evaporator fan" in the search box (middle of the page with search by part name in it) and press the enter key.

Select the box highlighted and then view the parts diagram to find the location of the evaporator fan.

If the fan is frozen over with ice, turn the power off and manually defrost the fridge and then check if the fan starts to work once you reconnect the power and the fridge starts. The fan only works when the doors are shut, so you'll either have to listen for it or mark the blades or something similar to show if it moves.

If it doesn't operate check the fan using an Ohmmeter to see if it is OK. Disconnect the power and the fan if you have to do this

If it operates OK then there may be a problem with the defrost system, e.g defrost heater, defrost thermostat etc.

Ok same make and model. The door ice maker will pour water into the tray but will not turn upside down to break the ice free from the tray. You have to push the bottom for it to turn and release the ice fro the tray.

Hi @ricknheather ,

Does it rotate OK after it has been emptied?

If you can hear the icemaker grinding, it will indicate the motor or gear has failed and will need to be replaced. If there is no sound, try to manually place the icemaker into a test cycle.

Not sure but I think that it has It has a small test button under the bottom of the module.

Press this button for a couple of seconds to start the icemaker. If it won't start, it will indicate the icemaker or the main board has failed.

Hello @ricknheather WE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE! With the freezer not cooling and the ice maker not dumping on its own. I realize this is an old post and was wondering if you figured out this issue? Trying to get any insight possible!

by

Same issue here, freezer cool but not freezing and the ice maker won't dump. The ice will dump if I hit the rest button though. Seems to have been this way since we cleaned the freezer out a couple weeks ago. Did we happen to bump something? Seems like a total coincidence this happened. Help please!

Hi @Nilidool,

What is the make and model number of the refrigerator?

What is the actual freezer temperature? Use an appropriate thermometer to check. If the refrigerator has a temp display use another thermometer to check as it may be indicating the incorrect temperature. Most probably not but it doesn't hurt to double check

It should be 0F (-18 C).

If not check that the evaporator unit behind a panel in the freezer compartment is icy cold to the touch. Use gloves as if it is your fingers may literally stick to it.

If it is, check that the evaporator fan inside the freezer compartment is running when the doors are closed.

Place an ear next to the fridge to hear it. It will run as long as the compressor is running and all the doors are shut. It will stop when a door is opened and then start again when the door is shut.

Do not confuse this fan with the condenser fan which is outside the compartments and runs whether the doors are open or not

Also check the door seals to make sure that they are OK. Place a piece of paper between the door and the door jamb and try to pull it out with the door closed. It will come out with a bit of effort but not that easily and it shouldn't just fall out. Try this at various places around the door, top, bottom and sides.

If the evaporator unit is not icy cold and the compressor has been running for a long time and the above checks are OK then there may be a problem with the compressor, a blockage in the sealed system or a lack of refrigerant due to a leak. Check for any oily residues below the compressor or on the condenser coils which may indicate a leak of refrigerant.

If the evaporator unit is not icy cold and the compressor has been running for a long time you will need a licenced refrigerator repair person to check the sealed system. This is to comply with environmental laws pertaining to the use and handling of refrigerant gases

I have a Kenmore Elite 795.71053.010 refrigerator (french doors on top with lower slide out drawer freezer). We bought it new back in 2011 when we built our house. I haven't checked any of the things you suggested yet, I was hoping that with the ice maker going out and the freezer not freezing, it would be a common issue and easy fix. Kinda peculiar that the 2 stopped working correctly soon after we cleaned the freezer out.

@Nilidool

Might be just a coincidence or your activity may have caused something to happen e.g. loose connection to a sensor that finally came off. This is only an example and not what may have occurred.

Get into the diagnostics test mode and check if any error codes are shown or come up when testing.

There is only one error code list for Kenmore 795 bottom freezer refrigerators so hopefully the diagnostic test procedure will be the same for all Kenmore 795 bottom freezer models as well. You can only try.

The error code meanings are here and also here (if you need a better view).

The manual also has the schematics of the refrigerator which will be useful if it comes down to a wiring problem.

Unfortunately not all electrical/electronic/mechanical problems are simple. They may look simple once the problem has been found. It is the finding the cause of the problem that is the hard part ;-)

I have the same problem. Compressor runs constantly and it is cool but doesn't freeze. The fan in the very back of the bottom freezer the sends air out the back is working fine. I can feel cold air blowing inside freezer , but apparently it's not cold enough.

Jeffery Goodwin did you find out the problem?
