Can you upgrade a Penryn MacBook logic board to a newer generation?
I have a black 2008 2.4GHz Penryn MacBook (the last generation of the black macbook; I ordered it new about a month before the unibody design was announced) and I am finding that many of the locked-in specs (Intel Graphics, DDR2 ram, 1.5Gb/s SATA bus) are aging and becoming insufficient or harder to upgrade.
I would like to know if there is any logic board with a newer chipset (supporting DDR3, 3.0Gb/s SATA bus, nVidia graphics, and if possible keep or increase the 2.4GHz speed) that can replace the current logic board.
From my searching, it looks like some of the unibody 13" MacBook and MacBook Pro logic boards may fit, but they are slightly different, and I'm sure there are subtle differences I'm not aware of.
I love this MacBook model for its minimalist all-black design, and would like to at least keep the black shell, so if it would be possible while replacing some or all of the other components, I'd like to know that as well.
Many Thanks.
Is this a good question?
