I have a Sony VAIO SVF13N17PAB, and just received a replacement battery [VGP-BPS41] from the Sony preferred parts supplier. Do I need to maintain power to the laptop when replacing the battery? Also will I lose data/reset to factory settings when the battery is removed? Thanks Scott

Do not change the battery while it is connected to power. Turn off your computer, then take out the battery and finally plug in your new one. No data is stored in the battery so don't worry about reverting to factory settings.
You should always power off your device when you replace a part.
