Want to install SSD but confused with the guidance of applestoreassist

I own early 2008 macbook pro A1260. And I travel so much. I thought it is time to update my 200gb default hd to Solid State Drive.

First of all I would be very happy to know your recommendations of SSD on the page: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis...

I read comments from people like me but who went through the process and not happy with the results. It's an older machine and seems like not every ssd will do the job in the right way.

Second:

According to the Ifixit.com instructions I am supposed to use superduper! Yet I was at the apple store yesterday and was advised to use time machine on my snow leopard to store/clone my hard disk.

I have 200gb hard disk on my computer with a bunch of applications that I don't want to lose. Can timemachine help when I transfer everything to a new ssd after the operating system install?

Thank you for the time you will spend reading this.

Thank you Majesty.

I thought I would use an external drive first to back up my hd through time machine.

Then install a new snow leopard on ssd then restore my files through timemachine back.

Where does the migration assistant takes place here?.

During the installation process, near the end of the process you would be asked if you want to use Migration Assistant to transfer data. Don't worry, you can't miss it.

I'll answer the easy question first. Yes, TimeMachine backs up all your User Accounts, Apps, and App Data. So, you can use Migration Assistant when you install SnowLeopard to transfer all your data to the new drive. SuperDuper clones an exact and bootable copy of your hard drive. But being that you are installing a new SSD I would rather install the OS fresh and use Time Machine to transfer your Data. Now the second question is a little tougher, I dont know how those perform with SSD's. Just do a little research and find the best SSD to suit your needs and look out for benchmark tests that involve a machine as similar to yours as possible.
