Dual hard drive kit slow performance

Hello everyone,

I installed a SanDisk 240GB Ultra II SATA 3.0 SSD drive into my Mac Mini Late 2012 with iFixit's dual drive kit.

My Mac Mini has 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 processor and 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM.

I think it's a good system, but performance is not good enough.

Spotlight search is so slow and system sees old applications from HDD drive. When I tried to open an image or any other file with "Open with", it tries to fetch all applications both SSD macOS and HDD, macOS code performance is also so slow.

I think there is a problem with my install what do I have to do?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Which drive have you selected as your boot drive SSD or HDD? Go into Preferences and check your Startup Disk setting.

Sadly, Intel had some issues with the PCH logic (Intel HM77 (SLJ8C) platform controller hub) within this system. Depending on when you got it the first models had an issue with the SATA ports. Here's a bit more:

Intel Discovers Bug in 6-Series Chipset & The Source of Intels Cougar Point SATA Bug This is not to say this is your issue but it would be wise to check.

Have you tried running Disk Utility - Disk First Aid on the HDD disk?

You may also want to look at running a good defragmenter app like: Drive Genius That might improve search services which is what I think is messing you up here.
