No Boot after Screen Replacement

Hello all! First time serious repair attempt here. I recently came by an iPhone 6S Plus that had its top half briefly exposed to water about a year ago. It's been in a drawer ever since. The only thing the owner did at the time was submerge in rice.

Yesterday I removed the logic board and gave it an alcohol bath, per a water damage Q & A I found here on ifixit. After reassembling and charging the phone up a bit, I plugged it into my laptop and the computer detected it and launched itunes. Since the screen was black, but the phone was booting up, I figured this was a dead screen issue and the phone was repairable.

I ported over the home button and installed a new screen today. Plugged it in for about 20 minutes and then tried to plug it into my laptop same as yesterday...and nothing happened.

Feeling pretty disheartened as it seems like I did more harm than good by swapping out the screen. I'm just wondering where in the process I went so wrong that a screen replacement is now preventing boot up.

Thanks in advance for any help. I'm not hopeful for this thing's future but at least it's been a good learning exercise.

you didn't say what it's condition was after you received and tested it before you tried to fix it.

While this could be related to the screen replacement, realistically the issue is related to the initial water damage. Water damage can cause multiple points of failure and with time, latent issue can come back and bite you.

The first thing to try is to put the original screen back and see what happens. Also closely inspect the flexes on the replacement screen and the connectors on the logic board to see if there is any visible damage. If the phone does boot up again but there is no image, shine a bright light on the screen to see if there is a dim image. That could be a clue that the backlight circuit is damaged.
