Minimal liquid spilled, doesnt start after cleanig with isoprop?

Hi,

I've read a few topics around this but haven't got a handle on what to do.

So there was very little tea spilled on trackpad 3-4days ago.

Today I opened the Mac and looked for corrosion. I couldn't find anything unnormal, except for some dust which I cleaned carefully. I don't have isopropanol at hand for cleaning... should i look for some?

I get the error codes PFM006 and PPN001 from diagnostics. The laptop works somewhat fine, just slow. I'm writing this from it.

What I've understood is that this is related to a heat sensor. What are my options? As I couldn't see any visual damage on the board I'm wondering what should be replaced? How to further investigate the fault? Is there any workaround to lower the high kernel_task and high fan?

I've reset SMC. High fan and kernel_task high also in Safe mode.

Sorry to say the images are a bit dark (and not detailed enough) so I can't see the components discreetly.

Did you remove the logic board completely from the uppercase? Often the other side gets the worse of it!

  • PFM006 is the SMC logic
  • PPN001 is the iSight logic

You likely need to look on the other side and clean it up. A soft toothbrush is what I use and just be careful! As you can easily lift the small SMT devices. Use a high grade isopropyl alcohol (85% or better).

Thanks, I did completely remove it. However as I mentioned, I didn't use anything to clean, just dry toothbrush for the dust. I didn't see anything with my eyes towards corrosion.

I didn't remove the heat sink either.

I'll look for some alcohol for a better clean.. Thanks for your response.

A good clean with isopropyl didn't help. Same situation.

Anything to do next? If I need to replace something, how would I know what it is?

Check the I/O board and mainly the I/O cable for corrosion they will cause sensor failures and high fan speed. Also check the Trackpad flex cable and trackpad for corrosion.
