Fingerprint Sensor LCD Connector Mesh?

Hello! Before I begin I would like to say that this is my first time posting on iFixit!

So tonight I was extremely bored, so I decided to disassemble the broken LCD of an iPhone 6 I had laying around (could be 6s, I only have the LCD to go off of) mainly to extract Apple’s LEDs and just for fun. However when I was separating the layers of the screen, I found that the cable that you plug the TouchID sensor into on the screen isn’t just a single cable, it seems to be an entire intricate mesh reaching to the top of the screen! It looks quite similar to a solar panel. Does anyone know why this is here? Could it have to do with fingerprint data being stored on the device? I know that this is not an urgent question, but my curiosity has struck again!!

That's the 3D (Force) Touch panel for the iPhone 6S. Check out the iFixit teardown here.
