iPhone 5s Black screen but it ON, battery bulging

So my iPhone 5s has screen has been bulging for a while now and I was going to buy a replacement battery but now my screen is completely black. The touch controls still work (as I am able to answer calls knowing where the button should be). All sounds work and vibrate works. If I replace the battery will the screen go back to normal? Or did the battery break the LCD by pushing against it too much? Hoping it’s just a battery fix. Please help!

That's hard to say, if you posted a picture it would help us come to a better conclusion. It is possible that the battery has damaged the LCD but I have seen some pretty bulged up batteries not damage the LCD. You will have to do first things first and get a new battery and see what happens. If you don't want to invest money unless you're certain, then I recommend you bring your phone to a repair shop and they will let you know what is wrong.

OK, so in so many cases the lcd goes bad in some phones due to battery inflation. in your description you haven't opened the phone yet. Try opening the phone disconnect the battery and the lcd, reconnect everything, if its still black then you need new LCD..

-Before all this while you can "feel touch" (the phone on), press home button and power simultaneously for 15-20sec.. phone will hard-reset, if still no show try above.. If notting Happens Need new LCD. and battery! good luck.

id say replace the battery, then DFU or restore, many times the black screen goes away after that.

Replaced the battery and problem continues. How would I restore if it asks to trust the computer and I can’t see what I’m doing?

dont do this,,, you will loose everything , and you will still have same problem... you need a new screen period.
