if you didnt already change the settings in your phone to allow the computer to read the device as a media file you won't be able to get information off the device that way. Im a repair shop and depending on your skill theres a few options we do. First there are new chargers that back up devises to them like usb every time you charge it however we have never used them so I'm not sure how it works. The tried and true method we use is simply attach a working lcd to the phone download samsung data transfer and transfer all the information to a second phone. S5 lcds run about 60$ on eBay or if you go to a local repair shop they should have one in stock for you and most charge around 60$ to complete the task. Most repair shops will repair that model for 140$ just so you know. Just trying to give options.
