Are the wireless cards for the 2009, compatible with a 2012 MB?

Hello,

I have replaced my 2009 C2D motherboard, with a newer 2012 I5.

Yes some things don't align but i worked around those and have everything secured and working, except the Airport/Bluetooth.

As you may know, if you look closely, the cables for the card to the motherboard change between 2009 and 2012. i was wondering if there is a cable that i can either make by cutting off the old adaptor and put the newer one on. Or if there is a cable that someone else made out there. Of course this wouldnt matter if the card and motherboard are not compatable. If that is the case, would there be a different wireless card to be a replacement in the same spot, or would i need to use the newer one that comes in the 2012 macbook pro. if i need to use the newer one, i will have to remove the screen glass to access and replace the old antennas as well.

Thanks to all for any feed back or more info.

The problem you face here is the Airport card in the 2009 model is within the clutch cover which is why the cable is so different as this cable is an extension cable for the mini PCI-E bus connection. Whereas the 2015 model has the Airport mounted just behind the optical drive. You also have very different Bluetooth/WiFi (802.11xx) boards.

So what to do??

I would just replace the lid assembly so you have the correct antenna cables and also gain the better iSight camera! MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Mid 2012 Display Replacement and this is the part: MacBook Pro 15" Unibody (Mid 2012) Display Assembly

You really can't stop half way here. Frankly, I wouldn't have gone to this length I'm sure with some effort you could have found a used newer model.

Thank you for your feed back!

I am a college student and work at a local scrap yard where we get used/broken computers. I have a great supply of macbook pro parts, varying from motherboards to whole shells. We will test these parts and can sell them for 3 times there scrap price. (motherboards are worth $2.50-5 per pound). so i bought the best motherboard that would fit into the macbook i already owned. total cost of my upgrade was just under $11. It wasnt much of a hasel either considering it only took me 30 minutes to replace the motherboard, reroute the optic cable and change a piece of the mounting for the back plate. I am just trying to figure out/learn all that is compatible between the versions.

Again thank you for your feed back!

I guess you have to do some hunting through the stuff you get for a 2012 display!

Good hunting ;-}
