Why the camera LCD is working only in Firmware update mode.

Hi,

I would like to ask you something. I have a Fujifilm Finepix F550EXR (it has the same LCD like the F505EXR). When I start the camera in Firmware update mode the LCD lights up, I can see the current firmware version (I even made a firmware update from version 1.13 to 1.14, but it didn't helped to solve this issue). When I start it in normal mode the LCD screen is black, the menus are working, the flash pops up, the lenses come out, I can take pictures, so everything working except the LCD.

If the LCD display is working in Firmware update mode it means the LCD is OK, it doesn't need to be changed.

What could be the problem?

Thank you very much for any answer.

Have a very nice day.

Hi @mister83 ,

You say that you can take pictures.

Does this mean that you can download and view the pictures OK on a computer or even that you can view them later on the LCD? (I realize that you cannot 'see' them, when actually taking the picture)

If you cannot view the 'saved' pictures OK and have just a black image, then there may be a problem with the camera's CMOS sensor.

If you can view the 'saved' pictures OK then there may be a motherboard problem of not switching the "image" through to the LCD screen

Hi @jayeff,

thanks for your feedback. I can't see anything on the LCD, it's black, but the other functions do work, I can take pictures, capture video and yes, I can download and watch them on the PC (quite good quality). It's possible that the motherboard has some problems, but than comes the question: why the LCD works when I start the camera in Firmware update mode (Power button + BACK button)? There are no black spots on the LCD, no color issues, everything is clear.

If there would be some problems with circuits that forward data from the sensor to the LCD than I would be able to see at least the menu on a black background. Unfortunately there's nothing on the LCD (it's black, no menu, no image, no backlight, nothing), I hear that I navigate through the menu with the selector button, but nothing shows up on the LCD. It's something like the software is not starting the LCD.

Thank you very much for any idea.

Hi @mister83 ,

Presumably moving the shooting mode dial has no effect either, just in case it is between settings for example?

by

When moving the shooting mode dial I can hear it beeping, but no effect., the LCD is black. It's very strange why the LCD is not powered up when started in normal mode or playback mode.

Hi @mister83 ,

Can you see anything at all on the screen in Normal mode by shining a torch at an angle close to the screen?

If you can, at least it narrows it down to a backlight problem in normal/playback mode only and nothing more. Not that it helps any.

The only other thing I can think of is a motherboard problem as everything else, as you say is working OK.

Just thought I'd show you this as a backup option to consider in case you or no one else can resolve the problem.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I already tried it, and I can't see anything., so it's not the backlight, simply the LCD display is not powered up. Maybe I will open it up and try to figure it out somehow.

Thank you anyway. Have a nice day.
