Power button feels like it works but does not?

I've already ordered a 3G power button and vibrate/ring button but I hope I got all the right parts. I'm worried that when I open it up and replace the parts, it still won't work.

Both buttons have the tactical feel that they work.

More specifically, when I press down on the power/sleep button it feels like it works, but the iPhone doesn't respond.

As for the ring/vibrate button, I can flip the button to vibrate mode but it only works if I hold it in a certain position.

Do I need more parts?

TIA!

the flex is for headphone jack, volume control, mute and power. You may like to try reseating connector no.6 before replacing just to see if this fixes the problem, but otherwise this should be the only part you need. Ryan is right.

So...

Both buttons replaced now. Mute/Vibrate button works and the power button now responds to pressing it down!

But...

The power button seems like it's ultra sensitive now. Seems like it want's to "sink" into the left hand side. Rocking it back and forth seems to help some. I wonder if I should open it back up and make some adjustments?

Thanks all for your help!

UPDATE: I tried re-seating things again in the hopes that I would lose the "sensitivity" of the power off button, but now, the power button no longer works :(

What to try next?

I'd try loosening the screws on the power button bit by bit. Sometimes you can overtighten and you lose the "spring" of the button, hence it won't turn on or off.

by

I'll give that a try. Odd thing is, with the new or old power buttons, they both still have the "spring" and sensation that it's being pressed. I'll loosen them bit by bit and see how that goes. Thanks!

I've tried to loosen the power button screws bit by bit... still no go :(

the power/sleep button, vibrate switch, volume buttons, and audio jack are all one piece. so no that piece should fix both those issues.

So you are saying there is one piece that fixes everything? The volume buttons work fine...

Thanks pollytintop and Ryan for your input. Hopefully I won't need the flex cable and something is just a little loose.

by

you can try cleaning off the button on the cable (the button that the external one presses) that sometimes fixes this problem. but it sounds like you might just need to replace it.
