Only sporadically receives calls and says call failed when placing calls. If turned off and then back on, will work for a short period of time. Have reset, restored and then reauthorized with AT&T.

Hardware failure. It could be a lot of things. Check the headphone connector. If there is a short it will turn the device off. Check the data connector also. Make sure there isn't anything in the connector. Make sure the pins in the connector are not bent. It can also be a bad battery.

You've put some good ideas here, try to be more specific.. Don't assume anyone Reading your answer knows what you mean by check or connector. Put the how to and the what for as well. Do you mean connector 4 or do you mean the USB/data connector? Putting details in stops people making mistakes or needing further information. Just trying to help.. All the best
You should check for any foreign objects in the connectors... both of them. (ear phone and data) This was a problem I ran into with a ipod. Therewas a sliver of metal jammed into the audio(earphone) port and with would cause the ipod to turn off or lockup. Once I removed it there was no problems.

I'd replace the dock connector which houses the antenna flex on it's base. Click on the links for repair guides to the right under photo of the phone
