Occasionally powers down (instantly) + LCD light occasionally dies
MacBook 13 2.0GHz Core2Duo A1181 UK/Late 2007
a few months back my machine was powered off but connected to the mains. lightning must have hit the lines the other side of the island -- the screen flashed momentarily, and a little 'dink' / 'pop' sound... I was awake, and saw it happen.
since that time I have had quite a lot of intermittent trouble. The battery has popped ( finally I am ordering a new one ). so it is running purely from the Powerline.
occasionally it just turns itself off. This happened twice today. Both times shortly after I had plugged in either the iPhone or the iPad. So I think it is some power issue... I'm contemplating getting a replacement MacBook MagSafe DC-In Board MacBook MagSafe DC-In Board
there is a second problem with the LCD turning itself off, and this seems to be completely separate. I remember a while back shining a torch and noticing that the pixels are still getting lit.
I am running an external monitor as well, so while I am working, the LCD would just go black sometimes. and to bring it back on I would have to either
a) close and reopen the lid, or
b) going into Control Panel/ displays and check and uncheck ' mirror displays '
I reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled OS X last week. Still both problems have persisted. Yesterday I changed my power settings to prevent the display from ever going to sleep, and this appears MAYBE to have fixed the latter issue... over 24 hours and I haven't had a single powerdown. but I would need to leave it a week before I could say for sure.
so far I haven't found any way to make either symptom repeat.
I am wondering whether a Display Inverter MacBook Display Inverter would be likely to help.
can anyone offer some guidance? Am I wasting my time? are there any tests I can perform? Am I missing some solution paths?
Many thanks for your time,
Pi
