Battery drains even when the iPOD is off.

My son upgraded to a 160 gb classic and gave me his old one. When I got it it would not hold a charge at all. I bought a generic battery on eBay (480 mah) and installed it. The iPOD then would hold a charge for about 4-5 hours, but if I turn it off and leave it overnight, it is completley dead the next morning. Is it because this battery is cheap and still does not work right or is there something else going on. Otherwise the iPOD functions fine.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Hi,

i had the same issue with one of my 5th Gen iPods. All batterys, even working ones from other iPods, where completly dead next morning. In my case it was a damaged logic board.

I was afraid of that. I wondering if it is cheaper to get a used one or to replace the board?

Hi,

the logic board is around $50 on ebay or in the parts store section for $69,95. As you already changed the battery, the swap of the logic board should be no problem if you follow the instructions given in the repair section. Another option is to look on ebay for a damaged iPod with a working logic board, to make a working one out of two.
