How to clean/remove smell?

Something seems to have found its way into my headphones that has caused them so smell quite strong, and I'm not sure how to go about cleaning them in a way that can remove it.

The smell seems to be coming from where the speakers themselves are, so I'm really at a loss... It's nothing I can see, there's no discoloration, so it must have been some sort of liquid but everything seems to still be okay aside from their new smell.

(Think REALLY bad cologne)

Any suggestions/instructions?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi @danieljperagine maybe get a plastic container with lid, put the headphone inside with maybe a cloth or unused sock filled with some Charcoal Briquettes .... and close the lid, hopefully the smell will be absorbed.

Hey Augustine, thank you for the suggestion! You think maybe a lock seal tupperware, perhaps? I'll have to give that a shot. :)

Hi @danieljperagine , yep lock seal tupperware or equivalent, as long can seal and put your headphone inside, hopefully those charcoal will absorb those bad smell.

So the rice didn't work... It was a good idea, though. Thanks anyway. Gonna try the alcohol solution next... Wish me luck!

Hello Daniel,

I can think of 2 possible options if the charcoal doesn't work.

1. Place the headphones in a bag of rice.

2. Worst case, is to place the headphones into a container of isopropyl alcohol. Let sit in that for about 1/2 hour, remove and air dry it will kill any bacteria causing the smell. Make sure the headphones are completely dry before using. The alcohol will dry pretty quickly, you just don't want to damage the speakers while they are wet.

Good Luck!

Thank you! I'll give all the ideas a try to see, but in regards to the second option you suggested ... will the alcohol not damage the electronics/leather/plastic?

Hi Daniel, i’m just curious, did the alcohol work? did the leather get damaged at all? I’m dealing with the same situation and nothing seems to be working.

I’ve had these problems too the way I get rid of the smell of the headphones is charcoal and seal it in a plastic container. and after that I put the headphones outside and expose it to the sun

dont shower for a month, your body odour will over power your headphone smell. And ur welcome. Hopefully this helps you cope with the smell. Thank you and no problem and have a great day.
