Hi @rosejoey

Good Day!

What functions do you use your computer for?

Well it depends on your usage, most apps now are going in with High Sierra,

If you are doing daily stuffs like websurfing, work, in general it is fine.

Just share what stuffs or apps you are using so we can advice you on the best options :)

I use word documents, do video editing on imovie, i surf the web using multiple tabs (many) for school research and store files for school. so basically school work and video (and maybe a bit of digital art/photo editing in the future.) I have the standard computer. no ssd, no upgraded ram. I can’t afford that yet. I want my computer to run as smoothly as possible. Especially in tight situations where I need things done quickly. What do you think?

So far apps are supporting both so there's no reason to jump yet.

As from a hardware perspective High Sierra still has issues with SATA based SSD's so if you currently have a SSD in your system I would stay with Sierra. Keep in mind the format of the SSD drive will be modified to APFS when you upgrade and that will prevent you from using some 3rd party drive utilities.

Thought they were good with SSD, and then if HDD they will simply run journaled?

Dan, is it going to do the APFS on an 2.5" third party SSD or just on the 2013+ blades?

by

The installer is designed to upgrade any SSD to the new APFS file system. So it does not discriminate which I/O is being used.
