What has caused motherboard failure?

My iphone 3g has refused to reboot after it went off without warning. i have consulted all repair places, none official yet. but they seem to think the motherboard has failed. i dont know why it would because the iphone did not drop or have any damages before going off.

Try holding home and power button for 10sec. Apple should appear then release buttons and allow to reboot....if that doesn't work then hold home and then attach to USB/iTunes.... Let us know

still, no response.

have you tried a new battery?

I have seen boards fail before due to shock or heat. Upon opening the EMI shields, I see components that have cracked, small inductors or chipsets.

Plug the phone in to wall charger, turn vibrate on and off. Try a different charger and cable. Clean the dock port of all lint/dust. Check for obvious bent pins etc If still no response the problem may be the dock connector.

At this stage replacing the dock is the cheapest option. Try the above tips and then get back to us. It'd be a shame to declare motherboard damage without trying the simple fixes first.

Update

ok.. there are a few choices..you need to look under the metal shield to inspect the parts for damage this is a guide to remove the shield How to remove the motherboard shield? . take a look at this picture and compare to what you see on your ..motherboard choice no 1 is the fuse from battery.. choice no 2 is the power management ic. you will need some skills with a soldering iron for no1 and no 2 is probably something you won't have the tools for , you may need to take it to a shop/friend/or cut your losses and sell on.

Some of those need to be removed with a hot air station polly. The iron wont access the points on the bottom of the IC chips.

by

I know... But you can get away with a fine point soldering iron for the fuse. Have you found a board yet? I live in the uk and have 1 bit costly to post/try?

Mine did this before, its probably your charger. Try someone elses OEM wall charger or better yet connect to USB port on your computer. Within 30 seconds - 1min it should turn on. Please update
