Battery Status Bar Not Showing Up after Replacement

I just installed a new battery into my MacBook Air and after screwing everything in and rebooting, the battery icon isn’t present in the status bar and if I remove the adapter the computer shuts down. I reset the SMC and PRAM and no success. Should I reopen it and if so what should I look to do?

How about creating your own question with your system info and give CoconutBattery a try. Once you've got a screen snapshot paste it in as well so we can see what you're facing.

Sounds like you either have a bad battery or the battery connection is not secured completely. Lets see what CoconutBattery shows. Paste a screenshot here for us to see.
