HP Chromebook 11 is not powering on

Nothing happens when I press the power button. I have tried:

Powering on while it is plugged in and battery is removed

Connect to an external display to see if the screen is bad

I believe that either the motherboard is bad or the keyboard isn't working since the power button is a part of the keyboard. Is there an easy way to tell?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi Sarah Burkett,

Have you opened up the keyboard and checked on the motherboard? It could be water damaged,or straight up cooked itself. Look at every component on the motherboard and check on them.

Hi Sarah,

If you've disconnected the battery then obviously you know how to get inside. First step is to make sure you're getting power from the AC wall plug to the motherboard. If you take a look at the HP Chromebook 11 G5 DC Charging Port Replacement Guide, you'll see where the charging port connects to the motherboard. You'll need a voltmeter to verify that you're getting about 19.5 volts between the red and black wires. (Note, that's just a presumption on my part; I don't have schematics to verify).

The arrows point to the pins you should check; red for positive, black for negative. Once we know whether you're getting power to the motherboard, we can go from there.
