Replaced keyboard, do I need to update firmware?

MacBook Pro 15" Core Duo Model A1150 Keyboard

I just replaced the keyboard on an A1150 MacBook Pro (MacBook Pro 1,1). The new keyboard works with two exceptions.

1) The function keys are not mapped correctly, the keys for volume and such have moved but still respond per the old keyboard mapping. Is there a way to fix this?

2) The backlight and caps lock key aren't working (not sure if this is releated to #1 or not).

If I really really need to I'm prepared to take all the old function keys off the old keyboard and replace them, but I'm really hoping for a software solution.

Answer this question I have this problem too

It sounds tome like the new keyboard is not for this machine. Please check your part numbers, especially on the new board and let us know what you have.

Thanks Mayer. The keyboard I bought was listed (ebay) as 922-7183, but as you suggested I think it might not be. I don't see a actual part number anywhere on the new keyboard, but I think it might be 922-8350.

What I'm wondering is if there is any way to use this keyboard, or if I've got to uninstall it and return it...

We are correct, the part # should be 922-7183. Here's the one you got: http://www.welovemacs.com/9228350r.html

Frankly I'd send it back and get the correct part, you could mess with this board for days and get nowhere but a ruined board.
