Hi @GamerwithKeith,
It depends on how water resistant it is and whether or not any water entered the speaker and what got wet.
Generally when a device is powered on more damage can occur because the power is located in more parts on the circuit board at the time.
The impurities in the liquid conduct electricity and can provide circuit paths that were not in the operating design which can damage the components
When it is not switched on, depending on whether the circuit has a power isolating button or merely a power on button will also have an effect on the amount of damage.
Even if the components had no power connected to them in particular at the time then they still might be damaged when coming into contact with water or any other liquid due to the impurities in the liquid possibly having a galvanic corrosive effect with any metals in the speaker and electronic components have metal connectors and circuit boards have metal tracks.
I think that it is better to not take any chances and try not to get it deliberately wet, even it the speaker is classed as waterproof by the manufacturer. It may have been waterproof when it left the factory but the waterproof integrity may no longer be the same due to handling, e.g. bumps, denting the frame or similar etc.
If in any doubt, if possible open the speaker, disconnect the battery as soon as possible and check for any damage.
Whatever you do, do not place the speaker in rice thinking that this will cure the problem. Rice does not fix the problems caused by corrosion. Cleaning it properly using Isopropyl Alcohol 99.9%+ (available from electronics parts stores )is the best way of doing it and making sure that hopefully it will stay working

@aspyn
If you're not prepared to open the phone yourself and try to clean it etc, contact a reputable, professional mobile phone repairer, experienced in liquid damage repair and get a quote to repair the phone.
It may be too late already but you can only try.
Doing nothing will guarantee that it will never work again, in which case just buy a new phone.
