Has anyone installed a SSD in a A1176 Mac Mini1,1?

Hi,

I haven't been able to find a successful installation description of a SSD in a A1176 Mac Mini1,1. Can anybody confirm it is possible? Can you recommend any SSD model?

Thanks,

Igor.

An SSD drive is physically exactly the same as a regular SATA drive, with the same SATA connector. So as far as installation, there is nothing specific to SSDs, and you can therefore use the guide for installing a regular SATA into an A1176:

It's not a god idea to put the ssd where the optical drive is. That bus is very slow and will cripple your SSD speed. I believe the optical drive is on a PATA bus.

I just installed a ssd in my Mac mini with a 1.86GHz CPU.

It was very easy, the hardest part was taking off the top.

Once the ssd installed I just booted off my Snow Leopard DVD and done.

What problems are you having?

If you put your orignial HD into a USB enclosure you can hook it up and boot off of it first.

You will see the ssd as a attached drive in Disk utility program.

Format the ssd and install new OS.
