Camera only takes blank/black photos? Nothing appears to block lens.

My Fuji FinePix XP85 works fine except for taking blank/black photos/video. There doesn't appear to be anything blocking the lens. I've taken the battery out to reset things and put it back in. That made no difference. What would cause this and how do I fix?

I have the same dilemma as @brenlm- except my screen is fine to the eye but when you go to take a picture the screen becomes frozen and unresponsive. Its been like this for a long time I'm so clueless as what to do with it?

Hi @brenlm ,

Can you see an image of the photo you want to take in the camera's LCD monitor screen?

If not, can you view the menu screens in the monitor OK?

If you cannot see the image but can see the menu screens then the most likely problem is a faulty CMOS image sensor in the camera.

Try taking a photo (I realize that you cannot 'see' what you are taking) and downloading it to a computer to check what the photo is like.

If the downloaded photo is a black or blank image then you have a faulty CMOS sensor

Unfortunately I've been unable to locate a CMOS sensor replacement part for your model camera. You may have better luck.

If you cannot see the menu screens either in the monitor, try taking a photo (I realize that you cannot 'see' what you are taking) and downloading it to a computer to check what the photo is like.

If the downloaded photo is OK then you have a faulty LCD monitor.

If the downloaded photo is just a black or blank image then you have a faulty CMOS sensor and a faulty LCD monitor or perhaps a faulty motherboard which is affecting both.

Has the camera been dropped or gotten wet at all?
