How can I enter in the BIOS (ASUS X55U)

Each time i try to enter in the BIOS, pressing F2, the laptop turns off and doesn´t let me enter in the BIOS,

To enter the BIOS in this laptop you have to press F2 first and the start button after (without letting the F2 go), but, instead of entering the BIOS, the laptop shuts down. In fact it shuts down with any F key pressed.

Can someone help me?

Accessing with the BIOS ASUS Laptop key

Accessing your laptop BIOS may differs from system to system.  The '''asus laptop bios key''' can be accessed through a simple series of steps.

Step 1: Restarting the laptop or booting it up by shutdown.

Step 2: When computer starts booting up, press with F2 key on your keyboard. Before the machine begins its usual boot cycle, you only have a few seconds to press the switch. This operation will boot up the computer in BIOS mode, a gray and blue screen with various settings.

Step 3: Releasing F2 whenyou see BIOS screen.

Try the "Boot Options" key - Normally its F11 or F12. In this list of available devices to boot from, the last one or second to last usually is an option to enter the BIOS from there.

Update (03/04/2018)

You don't need to do this to get Windows 8.1 installed.

Windows 8.1 is a service pack consisting of 3 files you can install directly from Windows 8.0.

Hi @kicker ,

If you have Win 10 installed turn off fast startup, reboot the laptop and then check if you can get into BIOS using the F2 key.

I have Win 8 (I want to install Win 8.1 PRO), and to turn off "fast start up", I have to enter the BIOS (and go to security in the BIOS menu), but I can't, when pressing the F2 key together with the start button (that´s the way to enter in the BIOS on this ASUS laptop) the laptop shuts down (insted of entering the BIOS.

Hi @kicker ,

The fast startup option is in the Power Options in Windows 8.1 also. Here is a link that shows you how to disable it in Windows, so that you can get into BIOS when you restart the computer.

Uncheck the box next to turn on fast start (recommended) > Save changes and then restart the laptop and press F2
