Why does the motor appear to cut in and out?

The motor on my Karcher pressure washer has stopped running smoothly. It occasionally stops altogether as if overheating but does not appear hot. During operation it is constantly surging in power and then slacking off. Sorry for the un-technical description.

Are you or have you used a cleaning agent with this? If so what did you use? What type of water source are you using city or well?

This could be due to 3 different problems. It could be: 1. The unloader valve needs to be lubricated or replaced. 2. It could be partial blockage in the carburetor needing cleaned or even a rebuild. 3 . It could be dirty air cleaner. There are videos on YTube for most if not all of these...

Is the water supply sufficient. Check that any filter is clear. We used to suffer from low mains pressure and the Karcher would stop as it allowed enough water to get to it's innards.
