Why is there gas in my oil

I have a 2002 tahoe I took In for an oil change about a week after I got it, when I was at the counter paying the mechanic that changed came up and told me that I had fuel In my oil, he didn’t say how much exactly just that he could smell it pretty good, how did it get there and will it ruin my engine?

Have someone look into your fuel injector and fuel pressure regulator (and related systems).

Yes, a lot of gasoline in the motor oil is bad because it reduces the oil's ability to function as a lubricant. Lack of lubrication causes unnatural wear along the cylinder walls and bearing.
