Replace mid-2009 motherboard with mid-2010 motherboard

My mid-2009 17" MacBook Pro started smoking when I plugged in the adapter a few weeks ago. Apple says it's obsolete and won't repair.

I'm windering if I can replace the motherboard and DC-in MagSafe Board with mid-2010 versions. I love the size and really would not like to lose it quite yet.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Unlike the 13" & 15" Apple did not make any changes between these systems so you can replace the logic board with the newer mid 2010 board.

But before you do that you'll need a new battery, MagSafe (real Apple unit) & the DC-In board as it sounds like you have a a power issue.

I just replaced the battery a couple of months ago. Think it's fried too? Thanks for such a fast response to the original question.
