Touch ID works but home button doesn't after repair.

Exactly as it says. I replaced the screen, and now the home button "click" doesn't work. It displays a message saying "the home button might need repaired" and brings up assistive touch. However, the Touch ID works, so I don't think it has anything to do with the screen. I have completely reset the phone in DFU mode, no luck. Any advice would be appreciated.

There is an IC on the HB flex that is very fragile. It is called U10 or the Turtle IC. It is a micro-BGA IC and the solder balls can be damaged/cracked when removing or manipulating the HB flex. This IC is there specifically for the "click" functions. It can be replaced but this is a micro-soldering repair...on a flex cable to0...and is not a DIY repair.

Minho is most likely correct, and I believe the people at mendonipadrehab.com may be able to fix it. They specialize in those repairs, but its definitely not cheap.

It's a pretty standard repair, most experienced shops can do it, myself included.

I just replaced the battery on my wife's Iphone 7 plus and had the same issue. If the volume buttons don't work and the phone takes a long time to boot up, check the screen connection on the top right of the phone. The ribbon should be coming out the bottom of the plate and not the top. If you put it in upside down, you'll have all the symptoms I just mentioned.

Oh my gosh, thank you for posting this. I was going insane lol. This fixed it for me. The exact symptoms (very long boot time, volume buttons not working, touch ID working but button not working).

thank you so much!! Saved my phone there. I thought I'd &&^&@@ it but you was right, I simply had the cable the wrong way up!!

Oh goodness. I feel so dumb. I was making the same mistake. Cable put in upside down. Thank you so much!

OMG.... This did it. No haptic (clicking) but fingerprint still worked, and no volume button. This is one of my dumbest moments. It just seemed to fit naturally upside-down. lol.
