Why will my screen turn on or charge.

My HTC M9 died this afternoon and i have been charging it for at least 7-8 hours but the screen will not even turn on to say it is charging the only thing that is on is the red charging LED light

Options

Try holding power + volume down for about 20 seconds.

Then try turning it on / plugging it in again.
