My iMac has a problem with it's graphics board

Hi, I need your help again please.

My iMac has a problem with it's graphics board: Radeon HD 4850

  • ROM Revision: 113-B9110C-425
  • EFI Driver Version: 01.00.383

I've sent it to Apple service 2 times now and they can not repair it. They tell me they can't find a new one to change it.

The screen has small vertical lines that flicker, a week ago it was the same and when it closed it did not open again. The screen was black

Please help me! Thank you

The GPU board in your system is a premium GPU at the time. Not many people bought the high end system with it, so getting a replacement will be costly!

Most are used boards taken from dead or part systems. So you do need to be careful where you buy it as they may not offer a replacement or your money back!

Here's one source I have faith in for the GPU card: ATI Radeon 4850 HD w/512 MB of RAM - Apple P/N 661-5315

You might want to think if putting additional money into this system is worth it. While still a good system, depending on what you are doing you might find a newer system will offer more performance. Yes, the newer systems are more locked in and maybe you just want to hold off until Apple intro's the new Mac Pro as its claimed to be a modular system. The new iMac Pro is a mean beast which for many may offer the needed performance but it does come with a cost.

by

Yes! $7,500 (US) is high for my pocketbook for a new iMac Pro too!

by

Maybe a used 2011 iMac system locally would be cheaper.

When I was in collage I went on a sailboat trip around the islands off of Greece starting at Samos and ended at Ios. It was a great learning trip checking out the tunnel of Eupalinos and Homers Tomb of Honor.

Yes the islands is beautiful
