What does this mean?

Turns out the smoking smell was something else in my house. Everything is taken care of. However I discovered a new thing with the battery. The computer recognizes it and CoconutBattery does as well, but it does not charge and it also does not work on its own. The battery is at 55%. The computer has to be plugged in the entire time or else it will turn off. What does this mean?
