sony external hard drive hd-e1 ticking problem

I have a Sony external hard drive HD -e1 1tb. Its not detecting on any PC or laptop. It has a ticking sound from inside. The sound is not very frequent or continuous. I had the same problem with another HDD of the same brand which the company replaced with this one. And this also has the same problem. Many of my important documents and pictures are in it and I need those really bad as they are a part of my life. Please do help me find a solution. I want those documents recovered. Forget about the HDD, I would have send it to the company with some curses if it hadn't have my docs. Please anyone help me with this.

Forgive me for selecting the wrong device above. I just wanted to ask for help.

Answer this question I have this problem too

A clicking HDD is not good. (A.K.A "the click of death") Which can not be solved by software data recovery. (Hear that spammers? not needed here!) I would recommend a forensic data recovery service, as that is your best bet. (forensic data recovery is like recovering securely wiped data from a criminals hard drive for police.)

I don't know whats around your area, so just take a look on google. something like "Forensic HDD data recovery" should cut it.

But whatever you do, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE DATA RECOVERY SOFTWARE. as this is physical damage, and most of those programs are crappy anyway.

This is going to sound strange. Put your hard drive in the freezer overnight. The next morning try plugging it into the PC and try to access the drive. If this works, you have a limited few minutes to get your docs. The idea is simple expansion and contraction due to extreme temperatures and sector sizes of the hard drive platter. Just make sure no moisture or condensation builds up and damages the drive further.

@avanteguarde So will this may work with my clicking drive? If so how do I ensure that no moisture gets in?

@paperboypaddy wrap it in a towel and then a plastic bag.

I had the same issue with my WD external drive and I ended up taking it apart (as long as you can get the data off of it). I then put the HDD into my dekstop computer using SATA cables and it worked, luckily, and I was able to take everything off. Sometimes, the SATA to USB converter fails.
